IRS FEDERAL STIMULUS PAYMENT

Attn:  Seniors  - We wanted to make sure you are aware that unless you file a tax return, you won’t get a check from President Bush’s economic stimulus package.  Even if you do not normally complete an IRS tax return (many senior citizens don’t), you need to do so for 2007 so that you can receive a check.  As you know, tax returns must be postmarked by April 15th.  If someone claims you as a dependent on their taxes you do not qualify for this stimulus payment and you can not file a tax return.

Use IRS form 1040A from your local library.  On that form, your social security benefit gets reported on Line 14a.  This is the amount reported to you by the Social Security Administration as “Net Benefits for 2007” in Box 5 of Form SSA-1099.  (The SSA-1099 is the form you provided to the Assessors for your property tax exemption.)  The IRS wants you to write the words “Stimulus Payment” across the top of the 1040A form you file.  Unfortunately, we are not equipped to help you complete the tax return.  We simply wanted to notify you so that you wouldn’t miss out on getting this money.

Woodstock 40th Anniversary Book

We’ve been approached by the publishers of Goldmine Record Album Price Guide (Krause), to author a retrospective of Woodstock at 40, and are trying to amass a daunting 500-700 rarely, if never before seen, photos of Woodstock and the Bethel/White Lake area at that time, to commemorate the 40th anniversary coming up next year..

Our vision of this book is to use photos from festival-goers, crew, townspeople and such and present this book from their perspectives, which will make this very unique from any others. Included in the book will be memories from people who were there - at the concert, and in the area. Also, pictures of memorabilia from the festival, posters, tickets, stuff from Yasgur's farm, etc., provided we can locate these buried treasures.

We are calling out to everyone who might possibly have photos from that time, or know someone who might have a box tucked away, that could be lent to this project.  We are hoping to involve the local residents in this project. It was their Woodstock, their towns, and most certainly they all have their own perspectives.  Snapshots, film footage - any condition. We’re following all leads and any help is greatly appreciated.

Please contact me directly at: joann1108@aol.com or call (570) 489-1216, leave a message and I will get back to you.

March Newsletter Correction

My information in the last newsletter was outdated and the number for the wildlife rehab was disconnected.  This is the newest information from the DEC.  Licensed by the DEC Thomas Yeager 985-2377 or John Doty 932-8743. They have the equipment and skill to capture, remove, etc. animals under the most difficult circumstances. The cost depends on the situation.

Gypsy Moth Information

Due to the invasion of gypsy moths in the past years,  I thought it would be helpful to share information on the management of these common and natural invaders.  I called Cornell Cooperative Extension in Liberty and they sent me some useful informational on the entire cycle of the gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar).  One contact they sent me was the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service at www.na.fs.fed.us and www.entomology.cornell.edu
