Cat Problem in Smallwood

I am concerned citizen with the issue of the numerous stray cat colonies in Smallwood. We are dealing with a colony right now on my street. I am a summer resident and there is only one full time resident on the street. These poor people are overrun with cats and are trying their best to control the population the humane way. I personally adopted one cat and got a kitten recently adopted. There are still kittens and several older cats wandering around. I have seen other cats also, sitting in front of closed-up bungalows. People feed them and then leave for the season and leave them behind. It is cruel. If everyone did their part and trapped at cat, had it fixed and released it, the population would be under control. We also need a vet who would give a good discount on strays. It seems like most vets in the area charge full price to fix a stray cat and that is a real shame. If animal lovers would spend a few dollars per summer to fix one cat it would be a help. It would also be nice if a resident in Bethel, Smallwood, White Lake, etc would agree to hold a few have-a-heart traps and share and lend them out to residents who request it during the year and or also lend a shed or some temporary shelter for a cat that is fixed and needs to recuperate for the night. We really need a program in this area even if it is funded mostly by donations. I know I would volunteer and donate.  Thank you, a concerned citizen.
